A commercial truck driver was cited by Oregon State Police (OSP) following a Saturday night injury traffic crash with another commercial truck on Highway 22W in Polk County. The crash resulted in down power lines and the highway being closed several hours while the power company made repairs.

According to Trooper Aaron Roth, on December 3, 2011 at approximately 5:46 p.m. a 1999 International truck pulling a semi-trailer loaded with Christmas trees driven by FRANCISCO HERNANDEZ, age 52, from Bakersfield, California was turning left from Enterprise Road onto Highway 22W near milepost 8. The truck turned in front of an eastbound 1998 Freightliner truck pulling a semi-trailer loaded with utility poles driven by DARREL GODDARD, age 29, from La Pine.

GODDARD tried to avoid the other truck by steering right but collided with the semi-trailer. After impact, the Freightliner truck continued off the right shoulder where it struck a power pole, utility box and brick pillar. Power lines dropped onto the highway.

GODDARD was transported by ambulance to West Valley Hospital with minor injuries.

HERNANDEZ was not injured. He was cited by OSP for Fail to Obey a Traffic Control Device – Stop Sign.

PGE crews responded to the scene to repair damages. Questions regarding possible power outage to the area should be directed to PGE.

OSP was assisted at the scene by local fire personnel and ODOT.
